Our Activities
The SHHS RAK Club is always looking for ways to better our school and community through positive actions. Our first activities included planning guest speakers for each of our weekly meetings. Who were these individuals who spoke to our students about becoming positive role models in their social circles? Other students who were already effective role models. The topics of their brief talks included the pillars of good citizenship among other topics.
Our club officers get together weekly to discuss target items for the following week's meeting as well as upcoming and potential projects for the club. In order to gain a spot as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and reporter, the candidates must present a brief speech about themselves, their skills, and why they want to lead the Random Acts of Kindness Club. Group members will then vote for candidates in each position.
At the end of the school year, for teacher appreciation week, we gave all the faculty, staff, and administrators donuts from Krispy Kreme. This was thanks in part to a donation to our club! One of our previous activities included a book drive for the JC Schools Bookmobile. We collected nearly 2,000 new and gently-used books from the community. Another activity was the Books, Alive! event at Central Office. We shared three books with K-2 children, allowing them to hear the books, meet the main characters, and participate in various activities based on the themes of the books. Last year's Books, Alive! event was held in April, 2017. We also spent an evening decorating Easter cookies with residents of a local nursing home. We had a blast getting to know some of these new friends.
